The end of Term 3 is almost here, and holidays are fast approaching but there is still time to recognise the achievements of a busy and productive term. Our focus on reading and reading intervention is evidencing early success with many students making great progress thus far.
With term endings often comes change, and for us at Havenview Primary School that means we are farewelling two wonderful people. Firstly, after almost 3 years as our trusty School Business Manager, Mrs Leanne Wescombe has secured a position as the School Business Manager at Cooee Primary School. Her enthusiasm and dedication to our school has been exemplary, so although wishing her well, we do so with slightly downturned smiles as we will miss her. Additionally, since Term 2, we have very much benefitted from the knowledge of Mrs Michelle Pearce, but must also farewell her as she has decided upon a change in careers and will be leaving the department to pursue a family business opportunity. We thank Mrs Pearce for her work at Havenview Primary School, and as we wish her all the best for the next chapter in her life, we also know that she will be a loss to the Department. Farewells to some it might be, but we will also welcome back Mrs Fenton in Term 4, after her traipse around Australia.
A huge thank you to the whole school community for the smooth way they have negotiated the redevelopment. The noise and extra movement have the potential to be very disruptive, yet our staff and students have managed to ignore this, to still prioritise their learning. That has to be an Above and Beyond Star to the whole school. Well done!
Our end of Term 3 Assembly once again was a great opportunity to celebrate the fantastic learning our students have been doing this term. We will let you know early in Term 4 when the End of Year Assembly will be held so you can put that one in to your diary, and be ready to celebrate an exceptional year at HPS (and don’t we know how quick that will come about).
The final activity for Term 3 will be the Community Lantern Walk at 5pm on the last day of school. I thank the Parent Group and Ms Luck for making this opportunity happen for our school community.
I trust everyone has a great break and look forward to a productive Term 4.

Prep-1 Excursion
On Friday 15 September Prep-1 travelled by bus to visit the Devonport Regional Gallery Creative space and to watch the stage performance of Mem Fox’s picture book Possum Magic.
Bernadette at the gallery organised activities for us that were centred around some of the themes in the book. There was Magic ink painting, drawing an Australian animal using bright colours, making a collage of our own magical food, and drawing a picture of a place that you would go if you were invisible.
We walked across the long bridge to Roundhouse Park for lunch and a play. While we were there, we saw the Spirit of Tasmania docked in the Mersey River.
We walked back to watch the stage performance in the theatre at the Devonport Paranaple Arts Centre. The performance was exciting, surprising, sad, and funny.
The best parts of the excursion were...
Going on the bus and the battle scene with the snake- Tex
Seeing the big ship and drawing my jellyfish- Noah
Playing at the park- Will
Climbing at the park and when the smoke came out- Logan.
That mum and Lucy came and the music when the snake came out- Ryan.
Seeing the sea and when the movie was on the moon- Benson.
When the book of spells lit up- Esta.
The magic book and when there were shadows behind the moon-Piper.
When they turned the pages of the magic book- Aluna
The part with the snake- Dakoda
The whole show and the moon- Charlie
The flying tea towel- Cyris
When baby poss went swimming in the sea- Morgan
Laughing when the possum was being silly- Harper.
The Magic- Milan
The bit where baby poss turned invisible- Winter.
The baby possum went invisible- Amahlee.
On 15 September Grade 1-2 went on an excursion to Hive, Ulverstone to race cars, visit the art gallery and the watch the fabulous performance of Possum magic. The students were respectful and kind and were proud representatives of Havenview.
While at the Hive they got to race and modify the cars they had been building in class. The creative designs are wonderful. Students have looked at how their times were different who was fastest and slowest. The Hive also has a gallery and Museum so students worked on their fine drawing skills, and looked at how the ways we communicate today are very different from the past.
Possum Magic was a highlight with the students enjoying the magic of such a wonderful story. The cast even came out at the end and we were able to ask questions about their favourite parts, and how the set was made. It was wonderful to see how the students wanted to know all about the whole process.
As Term 3 comes to a close, we would like to congratulate our end of term value award recipients. These students have demonstrated D.O.E values of Respect, Growth, Aspiration and Courage thoughout the term, reflective in their appoach to learning and leadership.
And the winner is......
1st - Prize Ben Suter
2nd Prize - Tammy Lawerence
Book sellers prize - Deacon Hanigan
Thank-you to the Smith Family, School Association and everyone that took the time to sell and or buy tickets.
On Monday 25 September Madeline and Charlotte played off in the Somerset basketball Term 3 under 12 girls grand final and were lucky enough to come away with the win, great effort girls.
In order for us to gauge the stock we will need for 2024, we are now asking you to place your orders for next year. By placing an order you are not obliged to take the item/s, and may change it/them for other sizes if necessary, payment is not required until Book Collection Day 2024.
Unfortunately uniform prices have increased, due to supplier increases.
If you choose not to place an order we cannot guarantee that your required items will be in stock, as we are unable to hold bulk surplus items due to the financial burden it would place upon us.
Your order ensures that your uniform requirements will be available the week prior to school commencing for the 2024 school year.
Forms have gone home with the eldest child today.
Please return this order form to the school office by
Monday 16 October 2024
Students from Grades 5 and 6 have had the opportunity to be part of the Dream Big Career Visits, where students visit local businesses and or organisations to experience and learn about careers they maybe interested in in the future.
So far we have had students visit their chosen career in,Policing, Sports Coaching, Astronomy, Writing and Illustration, Nursing, Food services at McDonald's and Chef's. With more opportunities next term to experience a variety of careers.
As you can see by Archer's wares, some careers have their perks.
A Huge thank you to Tmeeka and the Parents Group for feeding our bellies with beautiful, hot, homemade soup during Term 2 & 3, it is very very much appreciated.

Share your thoughts.
One of our School Association Commitee's priorities is to 'Speak up for improvement of the School Environment'.
We are aware of many concerns relating to the entrance/carpark at the school.
We are wanting to compile any thoughts/concerns anyone in our school community may have regarding these areas.
If you would like to share, please reach out to me!
Thankyou,

Havenview primary has an active parent group that meets every Wednesday morning during school terms.
We catch up in the Kookaburra cafe after we drop our kids off, have a coffee and a biscuit and brainstorm ways to give back to the school.
This term we have organised the Father’s day stall and cooked soup for the school community each Wednesday.
Next term we will be planning the Christmas raffle and lunch.
We love to see new faces and hear new ideas so if you have any time free on a Wednesday morning, come on in and say hi!

Every school day matters
As we move through the school year, sometimes regular school attendance can be challenging.
It’s important your child keeps up good attendance habits though.
Going to school every day means your child has every chance to learn, and be around their friends and teachers. Every day adds up, to benefit your child now and in the future.
If you’re having trouble getting your child to school, please talk to us. We’ll listen to your situation, and help in any way we can.

Virtual Learning Centre update!
If your child needs to stay home due to illness, but is well enough to continue learning, they may like to access the Virtual Learning Centre via Canvas.
For Kindergarten to Year 10 students, the VLC provides access to online lessons and activities for your child on various focus areas including Reading and Writing, Number, Science, Physical Activity and Wellbeing.
Your child can complete activities of interest to them or to support catch-up learning and revision.
If your child is unsure of their Canvas username and password to access the VLC, please let us know and we can provide these to you.
You can also access resources and ideas to support learning at home at Learning at home. You can find out more about the Virtual Learning Centre on the Department for Education, Children and Young People website.
Whilst we acknowledge that illness may mean students are at home for a short time, it’s so important that our students are actively participating in their learning. We know that going to school every day gives your child every chance to learn and grown and connect with their friends and teachers.
If you’re struggling to get your child to school, help is available. Please talk to us at school about your situation. We’ll support you, in whatever way we can.
