A busy, productive and positive term is quickly coming to an end. It has been great to see the number of parents who have made the effort to come in for parent/ teacher discussions. Feedback from teachers is that these meetings have been very useful in providing support for students in their learning journey. If you have yet been unable to meet with your child’s teacher, please organise a time with them to have this discussion. Our team here are very flexible and always willing to adapt to ensure they can meet with you – so it is not too late. Arrange a meeting today.
Students, staff and invited guests had a great afternoon on Tuesday at the Walk ‘n’ Talk Track Project official opening. Thank you to mayor Teeny Brumby for attending and cutting the ribbon to officially open the Walk ‘n’ Talk track. Classes got the opportunity to walk the track and see not only the signs their classes had created but the signs of other classes. A huge thank you to Miss Alison Luck and Mrs Shandel Pile for being the driving forces behind this project. Jules Raimondo and the Burnie Mens’ Shed, Shandel’s family, Communities for Children, Christina Schleich and Charna Corona for organising the First Nation’s contribution and Kate MacIlfatrick for her support in ensuring people with hearing impairment were also represented. And, for his musical entertainment at the ‘Listen’ post – a NOTEworthy thank you to Mr David Turner – he never fails to make us sing and dance.
Continuing on with all the thank yous – this one is for all those parents who helped their children bring their Lego creations in to be judged for possible entry to Brixhibition in Ulverstone during the holidays. Some of photos of the amazing creations are included in this newsletter. Congratulations to Winter Barnard, Addison McLaren and Kalahni Ditcham who were our age group winners and Lochlan Roy who was the overall winner. We wish Lochlan all the best when he represents our school at Brixhibition.
Next term, Mrs Fenton will be taking some Long Service Leave and travelling Australia. I would like to take the opportunity to thank Mrs Fenton for her work with our school and wish her all the best for an enjoyable trip.
Finally, I would like to thank all our fabulous staff who have worked, in their consistently dedicated manner, this term to make sure our students are safe, happy and learning - it has been a busy term and I hope everyone has a good break and returns for an exciting Term 3.
Duncan Murfet
Principal

The Grade 4/5's have been learning about British Colonisation.
We researched penal and free settler colonies and what some of the differences were between them.
Free settler colonies were for the innocent people and penal colonies were for the criminals.
We worked in groups to research a penal colony of our choice and we created dioramas, descriptive text and Venn diagrams.
What a creative bunch we have here at Havenview Primary School!
Thank you to all the students that entered their Brixhibition lego master pieces, showing off their design skills.
Congratulations to our age group winners, Winter Barnard, Addison McLaren and Kalahni Ditcham and our overall winner Lochlan Roy.
Lochlan will have the opportunity to enter in the Brixhibition competion in Ulverstone in the school holidays. Best of luck Lochlan.
In weeks 9 and 10 of Term 2, students in Prep to Grade 6 received a visit from Tennis Tasmania during their PE lesson. Students engaged in minor games and activities to teach the skills required to play Tennis, with the older students also learning some rules and scoring to aid match play. All students who participated enjoyed both sessions and it's great to see their Tennis skills and knowledge improve. Students heard about some clinics on at the Burnie Tennis Centre during the holidays, contact details can be found below. We would like to thank Georgia from Tennis Tasmania for working with our students.
These items have been handed in to the office, if they belong to you please call into the contact or call 6431 3995
Virtual Learning Centre update!
If your child needs to stay home due to illness, but is well enough to continue learning, they may like to access the Virtual Learning Centre via Canvas.
For Kindergarten to Year 10 students, the VLC provides access to online lessons and activities for your child on various focus areas including Reading and Writing, Number, Science, Physical Activity and Wellbeing.
Your child can complete activities of interest to them or to support catch-up learning and revision.
If your child is unsure of their Canvas username and password to access the VLC, please let us know and we can provide these to you.
You can also access resources and ideas to support learning at home at Learning at home. You can find out more about the Virtual Learning Centre on the Department for Education, Children and Young People website.
Whilst we acknowledge that illness may mean students are at home for a short time, it’s so important that our students are actively participating in their learning. We know that going to school every day gives your child every chance to learn and grown and connect with their friends and teachers.
If you’re struggling to get your child to school, help is available. Please talk to us at school about your situation. We’ll support you, in whatever way we can.
