The end of Term 3 is quickly approaching, and we have a busy couple of weeks coming up. On Friday our Prep/1 and 1/2 class will be travelling to Devonport to attend the performance of Possum Magic at the Paranaple Centre.
For the next 2 weeks, our Grade 3 - 6 students will be participating in Swimming and Water Safety. Parents, due to pool demand, we are required to have our Year 3 and 4 students leaving school at 9:00 to ensure they get their correct time in the pool. Therefore, could you please have your child/ren to school by 8:45am. Parents can attend the swimming and water sessions, but we have been asked to restrict this to 1 adult per student. Additionally, it is a departmental and Safeguarding expectation that photos are not taken at these sessions and parents are NOT to enter the change rooms.
During Week 9, teachers will be sharing Evidence of Learning for Mathematics. Please contact your child/children’s classroom teacher/s if you would like to make an appointment to discuss their progress, thus far.
On September 20, Cynthia Hawkins will be joining our Early Years and 3 – 6 students to share some insights into her culture, particularly relevant to the Malaysian Moon Cake Festival. Cynthia will then be returning after school, on Wednesday 20 September to work with students and their parents to build their own lanterns. A community event will be held on Friday 29 September when parents and their children are welcome to attend the Lantern Walk event which will begin at 5:00pm in the undercover area where parents and children have the opportunity again to construct a lantern. Soup and rolls will be served at 6:00pm, followed by a track walk and visit to the Barker Street Reserve.
Our end of Term assembly will be Wednesday 27 September at 1:45 and once again we look forward to welcoming parents and community members as we celebrate our students’ achievements in Term 3.
Currently our staff are working closely with students to be more mindful of the language they are using in the playground. They have been reminded that the use of inappropriate language does not uphold our school expectation of Respectful and Caring. As such, students heard not upholding this value in their speaking will spend some of their break time sitting out, discussing with a teacher the impact their language has had, better ways to address their concerns and better words to use. Additionally, tackling in games has become an area of concern. We have reminded students that this form of hands-on play is not permitted at school. I ask parents to please discuss what respectful and caring looks and sounds like, particularly in relation to the above – language and safe play.
A huge thank you to all those supportive parents and students who have made an effort to ensure students are wearing our uniform. It has been fantastic to see the improvement in the wearing of the bottom half of our school uniform, most especially the reduction in coloured shoes and bright, patterned socks.
Next Term our school will move to using SeeSaw, the preferred departmental online platform for communicating with parents and sharing Evidences of Learning etc. Shortly parents will be receiving an invite to sign up to SeeSaw.
We have had a great response to our parent satisfaction survey with 17 families already responding. Please take the online survey by clicking this Link. or pasting the link below into your browser: https://ncv.microsoft.com/QJ1cWZDXBQ

How wonderful it is to see such a sense of community, in one's so young.
On Saturday 9 September Madeline, Charlotte and Alana were awarded certificates of appreciation for volunteering at the South Burnie Football Club, such a wonderful recognition of selflessness and community spirt. Well done girls keep up the exceptional work.
Congratulations
Congratulations to Jagger, Eliza and Willow for making it through to the Launceston Sports Exchange, representing North West Primary School Sports Association in Hockey and Soccer, a fantastic achievement.
During Term 3 students in Grade 5-6 were given the opportunity to sign up and participate in AFL Tasmania's Dockers Cup, held on Friday nights at Burnie High School.

Share your thoughts.
One of our School Association Commitee's priorities is to 'Speak up for improvement of the School Environment'.
We are aware of many concerns relating to the entrance/carpark at the school.
We are wanting to compile any thoughts/concerns anyone in our school community may have regarding these areas.
If you would like to share, please reach out to me!
Thankyou,

Havenview primary has an active parent group that meets every Wednesday morning during school terms.
We catch up in the Kookaburra cafe after we drop our kids off, have a coffee and a biscuit and brainstorm ways to give back to the school.
This term we have organised the Father’s day stall and cooked soup for the school community each Wednesday.
Next term we will be planning the Christmas raffle and lunch.
We love to see new faces and hear new ideas so if you have any time free on a Wednesday morning, come on in and say hi!

Every school day matters
It’s Term 3 already – welcome back for another term!
As we move through the school year, sometimes regular school attendance can be challenging.
It’s important your child keeps up good attendance habits though.
Going to school every day means your child has every chance to learn, and be around their friends and teachers. Every day adds up, to benefit your child now and in the future.
If you’re having trouble getting your child to school, please talk to us. We’ll listen to your situation, and help in any way we can.
To find out more, visit the Anything can happen website.
Virtual Learning Centre update!
If your child needs to stay home due to illness, but is well enough to continue learning, they may like to access the Virtual Learning Centre via Canvas.
For Kindergarten to Year 10 students, the VLC provides access to online lessons and activities for your child on various focus areas including Reading and Writing, Number, Science, Physical Activity and Wellbeing.
Your child can complete activities of interest to them or to support catch-up learning and revision.
If your child is unsure of their Canvas username and password to access the VLC, please let us know and we can provide these to you.
You can also access resources and ideas to support learning at home at Learning at home. You can find out more about the Virtual Learning Centre on the Department for Education, Children and Young People website.
Whilst we acknowledge that illness may mean students are at home for a short time, it’s so important that our students are actively participating in their learning. We know that going to school every day gives your child every chance to learn and grown and connect with their friends and teachers.
If you’re struggling to get your child to school, help is available. Please talk to us at school about your situation. We’ll support you, in whatever way we can.
