Principals Report
The culminating activity at our school for Term 3 was the Malaysian Moon Cake Festival lantern walk – Walk ‘n’ Talk Celebration Walk. I had the absolute pleasure of attending this event organised by our School Association parents. I was impressed to see so many parents and children come along to make lanterns, engage in the walk and find riddles at the Barker Street Reserve. A big thank you to Cynthia for visiting our classes and then being at the event to help with lantern making. I am hopeful that the school community will be able to host more of this type of community event in 2024.
Our whole school was thrilled to have our new Outdoor Learning Space available to students from Week 2. This space is a fantastic addition to our school, and I encourage parents to come in with their children and experience this space. Our expectations around the use of this space are displayed clearly on the blackboard – so please familiarise yourself with these as we ask that they be respected when anyone is utilising this beautiful space.
Students from Prep to Year 6 will undergo PAT testing in the next couple of weeks. PAT testing gives us the chance to check that students are making growth and the improvement strategies we are putting in place are effective in making positive impact on student learning. I am aware some students have anxiety about testing and would encourage parents/carers to talk to students about just having a go and doing their best. The data we get from PAT testing gives our teachers some very important information about what our students already know and what learning needs to be targeted next.
Havenview had been using Class Dojo for a few years now, however, DECYP recommends we use other platforms; as such we will spend this term transferring to SeeSaw. All Parents/Carers will shortly receive information on how to sign up for SeeSaw. To acclimatise to SeeSaw, we will increase our use of this platform throughout the term, while still continuing to utilise Class Dojo - with a view to SeeSaw being used exclusively from Term 1, 2024.
