Principals Report

Returning to work on Monday 8 May after some Long Service Leave it was very apparent that winter is fast approaching; the mornings are certainly fresh, but we are having some beautiful days. I was also proud of the fantastic start the school had made to Term 2. A huge thank you to Ms Maartensz for taking the lead in my absence and to all the other school community members who I  know stepped up to help out.

I would like to take this opportunity to Welcome Mrs Michelle Pearce to our school community. Michelle has joined our school from an out of school position on the Teaching and Learning Team and will be supporting the 1-2 class. We are thrilled to have someone with Michelle’s experience and knowledge to support our staff and students.

On Tuesday 16 May, I had the pleasure of attending our School Association meeting and am pleased that we have our full complement of parent/community and staff members. I know the School Association has been active in welcoming new families to Havenview Primary and encourage any members of our school community to contact one of the school association members if they have suggestions or queries.

During the School Association meeting I share the 2023 School Improvement Plan. In summary, our School Improvement Plan has 2 priorities. The first Priority is Literacy - in particular, Reading and using 3 waves of reading instruction to improve student learning outcomes. The second is Inclusive Practices and to continue to develop Havenview as a trauma-informed school. This will involve developing 3 tiers of support for our students and see us continue with our work on Zones of Regulation. I look forward to updating the school community on our progress on our priorities as the year progresses.

Fingers crossed the weather is fine for our Cross-country Carnival on Monday 22 May. This will be the second Cross-country Carnival where our focus is on encouraging participation, as such classes will start in various positions around our track and complete as many laps as they can. I hope to see lots of parents/carers in attendance to encourage our students (and staff) as they complete as many laps as they can.

Regards
