News from Grade 5/6

Students in 5/6 were tasked with building a raft that would float across a tub of water transporting an animal figurine. Students worked in pairs with each group given identical supplies for building their rafts including paddle-pop sticks, cardboard, small plastic bottle, foil, tape and straws. In preparation for construction, students tested their materials for being able to float, and if waterproof. After extensive testing teams constructed their rafts then later completed the ‘river-crossing’ test.

All team rafts successfully travelled across the water and kept their figurine completely dry.

The varied raft designs were pleasing to see as well as the final results proving 100% successful for all teams.’
