Sisters Beach Sea Country School Excursion
Explore Sea Country
Tasmanian Aboriginal people have always had and continue to have a strong cultural relationship with plants, collected both in and out of the rich waters around the coasts of Lutruwita / Tasmania. Plants in and around Sea Country are important to Tasmanian Aboriginal people.
On Monday, Havenview Primary visited Sisters Beach to explore the beach. When we arrived at Sisters Beach, we read out our Acknowledgement of Country. We explored the beach, looking at the plants and identifying what we could see and if they have a use for the Aboriginal people. Plants were used for the following purposes.
- FOODS
- MEDICINE
- TOOLBOX for building and tools
Many students found cuttle fish, seaweed and interesting shells and was curious about the purpose of these items for the Aboriginal people.
Thank you, Christina Schleich and Charna, for supporting us with this excursion, despite the weather everyone had a great time, and the excursion has sparked our inquiring minds.
