Principals Report
Almost halfway through Term 3 and we have certainly experienced some winter weather. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Parents/Carers for their continued support of our school uniform policy. It is not always easy in wet and muddy conditions to keep our students in school uniform, and I acknowledge the work parents do to maintain a high standard in this area. Our school association has recently reviewed our uniform policy and I will share the new policy in the near future. There are no changes to what constitutes our uniform just some clarification on a few items.
Our 5/6 recently attended the 5/6 Sports Expo and I would like to thank Mr Nichols and Ms Geard for their work in organising this. Some of our students have been nominated to try out for the Darwin v Devon teams, due to tight timeframes the information is not always available well in advance of these events, we will do our best to let parents know as soon as details become available.
The Department of Education has 4 values Aspiration, Respect, Courage and Growth, this term Havenview is focusing on Respect. I have shared some department information on Respect below and encourage all Parents/Carers to have a discussion with their children around Respect.
Why Respect? At DoE we respect ourselves, others, our past, our future, our environment, and we are kind. Respect provides us with a common understanding and expectation of how we relate, communicate, and treat one another. By acknowledging that other people have their own opinions and experiences we can accept and celebrate difference. Respecting each other enables us to develop trust and allows us to work collaboratively. Respect creates a safe and supportive environment so we can continually grow and develop.
Respect looks like:
- being kind, considerate, and trusting of others
- setting aside distractions, asking questions, and actively listening when communicating with others
- being inclusive and understanding difference and diversity
- providing a safe workplace where everyone’s mental and physical wellbeing is cared for
- acknowledging hard work and thanking others for outstanding contributions.
