Speaking of changes, those occuring to our buildings are also well underway. The Open Learning Area is complete, and staff are eagerly awaiting an improvement in the weather so we can start to introduce students to this great addition to our school. The contemporary classroom work is also progressing, but unfortunately the works around the 2/3 class have become rather noisy, making a move to the hall a necessity for the interim. A huge thank you to Mrs Costello, Mrs Mason and Jeremy for their work in making this move and also to the 2/3 class for the responsible way they have dealt with the change. We need to ask that parents are mindful of the move and the proximity of these students to the CAFÉ; as such, from now on could you please use the staff toilets in the main building to minimise the movement through the hall and any potential disruption to the class.
Recently there has been some discussion around school uniform. It was noted in our Monday Morning Meeting that our students always look fantastic with the top part of their uniform – a wonderful sea of blues and maroon. Given the challenge of getting clothes clean and dry, especially during the winter months, we are highly appreciative of the efforts of our parents to achieve this. However, the bottom half of our uniform is not meeting the standard of the upper half. As such, could we please remind everyone that navy is the identified colour for pants, shorts and skorts. In regard to footwear and socks, please discourage the wearing of those socks and shoes that ‘stand out.’ Mr Murfet and Ms Maartensz both love a good pair of socks with golF clubs for Mr Murfet and dogs for Ms Maartensz being the preference, however, we are not advocating for their presence at school. The wearing of uniform demonstrates our sense of belonging and pride in ourselves as a united community of learners; it also removes the potential ‘elitism’ and feelings of shame that can be felt when choice in clothing becomes the accepted norm in a school. I recently became aware of a student who felt so pressured that their shoes were not a popular brand that they used all their ‘birthday money’ to buy a pair of ‘trendy’ shoes. Imagine the heartbreak this child felt when they were told their shoes were fake anyway. Additionally, experienced teachers will quickly identify ‘out of uniform’ days as ones where unexpected student behaviours escalate – as such, we do not wish our uniform standards to slip and seek your support in this matter.
The School Satisfaction Survey is now available for families to complete. We would be grateful if you completed our online survey about Havenview Primary School. Your feedback is very important to help us inform our school-planning and decision-making. Last year we had a whopping 54 families complete the survey. With a focus on continual improvement, you will not be surprised to read that we are aiming for a greater number of families to complete the survey this year. The link to the survey is provided below. Once you have completed the survey, please encourage others to do the same.
Here is the online survey Link.

Finally, a reminder that 3-minute noodles (and the like) can only be brought to school, if they are in a thermos, with the water added at home. This eliminates the safety risk of students moving throughout the school with hot boiling water.

News from 1/2
This Term Grade 1-2 are looking at change. How we can see changes and notice the differences. Students have noticed change in many areas such as:
We have changed our age, as we have had many birthdays in our class.
We change desks, and where we work depending on what we are doing and who we need to work with.
In science we can change mixtures by adding water, food colouring or other ingredients.
In Math we can change numbers by adding, subtracting, diving and multiplying.
In handwriting our writing is getting better, practicing a new letter each day.
Book week in Grade 2-3
We have been enjoying some of the short-listed books.
We read Frank’s Red Hat by Sean E. Avery. We learnt that it is okay to be different and that not everyone is going to like what you like. Here are some of our awesome re-tells.
In HASS we have been looking at past and present. By looking at historical photos of Burnie we have identified changes that have occurred over time. It was interesting to see things that have changed in Burnie.
On Wednesday 20 August, Havenview held our Book Week Parade and my goodness did we have an amazing turn out, with students, staff and parents all getting involved. It was fantastic to see such effort put into designing and putting together such impressive costumes, really showing off some creative minds. Thank you to parents, carers, staff and students for their enthusiasm and creativity making for a fabulous day.
As part of our Book Week celebration, students had their work displayed in the hall for all to admire their hard work.
Share your thoughts.
One of our School Association Commitee's priorities is to 'Speak up for improvement of the School Environment'.
We are aware of many concerns relating to the entrance/carpark at the school.
We are wanting to compile any thoughts/concerns anyone in our school community may have regarding these areas.
If you would like to share, please reach out to me!
Thankyou,

This term we have organised the Father’s day stall and cooked soup for the school community each Wednesday.
Next term we will be planning the Christmas raffle and lunch.
We love to see new faces and hear new ideas so if you have any time free on a Wednesday morning, come on in and say hi!

Virtual Learning Centre update!
If your child needs to stay home due to illness, but is well enough to continue learning, they may like to access the Virtual Learning Centre via Canvas.
For Kindergarten to Year 10 students, the VLC provides access to online lessons and activities for your child on various focus areas including Reading and Writing, Number, Science, Physical Activity and Wellbeing.
Your child can complete activities of interest to them or to support catch-up learning and revision.
If your child is unsure of their Canvas username and password to access the VLC, please let us know and we can provide these to you.
You can also access resources and ideas to support learning at home at Learning at home. You can find out more about the Virtual Learning Centre on the Department for Education, Children and Young People website.
Whilst we acknowledge that illness may mean students are at home for a short time, it’s so important that our students are actively participating in their learning. We know that going to school every day gives your child every chance to learn and grown and connect with their friends and teachers.
If you’re struggling to get your child to school, help is available. Please talk to us at school about your situation. We’ll support you, in whatever way we can.
Every school day matters
It’s Term 3 already – welcome back for another term!
As we move through the school year, sometimes regular school attendance can be challenging.
It’s important your child keeps up good attendance habits though.
Going to school every day means your child has every chance to learn, and be around their friends and teachers. Every day adds up, to benefit your child now and in the future.
If you’re having trouble getting your child to school, please talk to us. We’ll listen to your situation, and help in any way we can.
